MG MGB Technical - Another K & N air filter question

I've installed the "Pyramid" type K & N filters on my HS4s as I have the power brake booster. I've heard these are not the best flowing K & Ns. If I accomodate the aluminum cast Cooper can bottom plates, will I get a better flow of air or will the loss of space degenerate it even further?

Luis,
What is the clearance you currently have between the conical K&Ns and the booster??? If more than a 1/4", then I don't think you should have much trouble using the OE Cooper's cast filter plate.

I admit to not having done this conversion with this filter assembly. But I did do it on an MGA, and the difference in mounting positions between using the Cooper's plate against the sheet steel K&N rear plate and just using the K&N plate as provided, amounted to about 3/16" in my case. I am assuming that the back plate furnished by K&N is essentially the same as the ones normally used with MGAs and MGBs - I can't see them doing otherwise.

The conical K & N's backplate approach to the carb throat is off centered as opposed to the orig. In this fashion, even w/ the off center the filters just touch my booster. I have taken measurements and can adjust the orig. backplates so they will fit on top of the K & N's backplate. This will effectively give me the original stack for the flow. although at a cost of sacrificing about 1/2" of space or airflow out of about 3". I'm just wondering if the airflow would be impeded because of the introdution of the orig. backplate.
