MG MGB Technical - Another Turn Signal Problem

I have a 71 Roadster. Here are the specifics: All the lights work, that is the parking lights, the headlights, the side marker lights, the brake and tail lights. The hazard lights all work fine EXCEPT the left front. The turn signals do NOT work at all.

When I use the turn signal switch, the dash signal indicator is lit continuously on the side of the signal I have on. It does that for both left and right signal.

When I turn the signal switch on, left or right, the tach will sometimes bury itself, sometimes not.

I have current into the turn signal flasher and out, and the hazard flasher works for all but the front left signal light.

Do I have a bad turn signal switch on the column? Its been removed and cleaned. Bad flasher? I have cleaned all the grounds and the bulbs are good. Obviously the wiring may be part of the problem, but the left side is wired according to the wiring diagram. I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Curt

Curt,

It's been a long time since I have been in this area, but I did have some experience with what just might be your problem when helping my nephew with his '79 B.

We discovered that the main ignition wire (white/black if I remember correctly) running to the ignition switch had melted insulation inside the harness tape. In his case, this was causing intermittent failed ignition. But the point is, all the wires for controlling everything in the stalks runs through the harness here and the tach signal is associated with the ignition wire. You should probably check the harness itself for something similar.

One other suggestion, I found a problem like yours that was due to a bad snap connector. I found it by following the wire back, checking for voltage with the turn signal on, until I found it.

Hope you havent forgotten the bulbs. Correct Type
