MG MGB Technical - Bad Brakes
Any ideas? My 1967 mgb has a dragging brake pad on the right side. I tryed a new seals and struggled with the insertion of the dust seal. After finally getting it back together I found that the right side brakes still dragged. I then replaced the caliper assembly with a rebuilt unit and took it for a test drive. I still have dragging brakes on the right side. Now I am really puzzled. I thought this system had a single line to the front and rear from the master cylinder. Wouldn't this eliminate a bad master cylinder from causing my problem? |

A collapsed brake hose is a common problem that causes the brakes to bind. If they are original you should probably replace them. |

Have you checked the flexible hoses that connect the hard brake line to the caliper? These can look okay from the outside but be collapsing on the inside. This acts as a one-way valve that lets the fluid pressure enter the caliper when you apply the brakes, but does not allow it to escape when you release the pedal. A crimped steel brake line on that side might also cause the problem, but then it should not apply the brakes on that wheel either. |
