MG MGB Technical - BENDIX SERVO UNIT REPAIR
Can anyone direct me to a source of service, trouble shooting and repair of a bendix servo unit. I have a 79 MGB & the servo is integral to the master cylinder. High brake pedal pressure is required to stop the car. If the brake pedal is pumped prior to starting of the engine the brake pedal does not subside when the engine fires up. I have replaced the vacuum line check valve at the cylinder head. The brake system has been checked out & is in good condition. Any & all advise welcome. Thanks |

Power Brake Exchange in California. They advertise in Hemmings. They did the servoes in my MGC in 1996. I've no problems with them since. I also had them do the servo for my GT. rick |

partsamerica has online store and show rebuilt servos from Cardonne at about 95.00--not a bad deal --limited life time warranty too I believe. Was considering one --but think my servo is ok. fwiw |

Thanks for your help. I have found a detailed description of how to overhaul a bendix servo written by Nelson Riedel on a "Buckeye Triumphs" site. I have also discovered a local bendix servo rebuilder here on Vancouver Island in Victoria. His advice is to first replace the vacuum hose and the check valves in both ends of the vacuum line. He wont quote on a rebuild as he charges his time. His suggestion was if I can't repair mine simply to purchase a used unit which run about $ 75 CDN. the complete rebuild kit cost almost $100 CDN including shipping. Nelson Riedel notes there is a rebuilder in Cincinnati. Partco Automotive, 1494 State Ave, Cincinati, OH 45204 phone # 513 471 7000. Price to rebuild in 2002 about $85 USD |
