Nathan, Take a look in the archives under "performance upgrades" or something similar. You should find plenty. Also, as you are in the UK, contact the guru of MG performance, Peter Burgess at http://www.peter-burgess.com. He's in Alfreton, Derbyshire. I highly recommend reading his book, "How to Powertune MGB 4-cylinder Engines", available through Amazon, http://www.amazon.com. Just kind of quick and dirty, if the bottom end is sound, a ported head and a set of K & N filters will do you nicely, followed by a rolling road tuning session to optimise the timing and mixture settings. Should be just what the doctor ordered. |

I second Paul. There is nothing like the work Peter and his staff are doing. He made me a fast road big valve head for my HS6 equipped B and it is the joy of my life, second to my wife. |

Buy the book AND go and see Peter - he is only in Alfreton and is prepared to talk about getting performance out of the B series. The key item really is the head - even if you only get Peter to cut three angle valve seats and nothing else you will get more extra BHP than fiddling with needles and ram pipes. |

Nathan- My engine has a Peter Burgess Fast Road head, plus some other modifications. It's quite reliable. It's also quite quick. The head is the single most cost-effective way to get a performance increase. You owe it to yourself to check out Peter's website by clicking on the URL that Paul listed above. If you don't want to do that, get the advance curve on your distributor recurved by Aldon Automotive http://www.aldonauto.co.uk/, mount a 1 3/4" Peco exhaust system, and install a set of 6" X 3 1/4" K&N airfilters. You'll need to change the needles in your carburetors to keep the fuel/air ratio correct. You'll get a bit more power, but nothing that'll even begin to compare with what you'll get from Peter's Fast Road head. |
