MG MGB Technical - Bosch Alt Swap

I just finished putting a Bosch alt on my 73 B as per Bob Muenchausen's directions. All went well and the installation was easy. I had to use a longer fan belt as the Bosch is larger in diameter than the Lucas. I also had to grind down the adjustment plate that bolts on the front of the alt. Other than that it was an easy hook up and bolt in. Next stop, new steering wheel!

I just did the same swap on my 73 BGT. I used the same belt. I had to reverse the bolt that holds the adjustment bracket on to move it closer to the engine.

Both of your experiences are quite typical of those of the majority of owners who have attempted this conversion. What they point to is primarily the minor variations in both our cars from one year to another and the same for the alternators we receive from rebuilders. Thanks for sharing those with this BBS, and glad you have had good luck and service from your alternators.
