The retainer, you have to pry it out with a screwdriver. To help just cut it. To settle the new one in place, a piece of hard wood with a small hammer will do the job. You must be carefull and be gentle. One important item is to replace pistons if they are pitted.

|Try to get it out in one piece if you can as you may have to reuse it if the new ones are really stubborn.|
|thank you for this information... but can I just stuff the seals back in the slots and avoid using the retainer part of the repair kit?|
