MG MGB Technical - Brake Caliper Repair
Last year I ruined my master cylinder not understanding its construction. So now I’m trying to repair the calipers on my front disk brakes more carefully. The Moss repair kits (180-981)include three parts. I have removed the 2 rubber “O” rings but how does retainer come out? Do I need to replace it or can I just fit the inner seal and dust seal back in? If the dust seal retainer must be replaced how much pressure can I use to “prise” it out according to the Haynes Repair Manual?” Could I apply heat to loosen the retainer? Thank you |

Hello anny, The retainer, you have to pry it out with a screwdriver. To help just cut it. To settle the new one in place, a piece of hard wood with a small hammer will do the job. You must be carefull and be gentle. One important item is to replace pistons if they are pitted. Cheers, JGC |

Try to get it out in one piece if you can as you may have to reuse it if the new ones are really stubborn. |

thank you for this information... but can I just stuff the seals back in the slots and avoid using the retainer part of the repair kit? |
