MG MGB Technical - Brake Pulse
Greetings All, I am having a bit of a problem with the brakes as I pull up to a stop sign. It seems that the brakes have a pulsation that can be noticed both from the pedal surface and from the actual speed of the car. Also, ocassionally the car will shimmy a bit as it is stopping. This is noticed mostly through the steering wheel. Would a warped brake rotor cause this? Any tips or advice? Thanks, Ray |

Could be a warp rotor, or even a defective rear drum. The shimmy points to a disk. pull the wheeels and put a dial indicator on them and check the runout. |

Is this a "sudden" occurance? Were the brakes recently redone? When did you first notice and has it become progressively worse? Is the brake fluid reservoir full? Any fluid/grease/oil on brake parts or wheels? In addition to "warped rotors" (it has been postulated that warped rotors do not actually exist except in rare occurances) it could be uneven brake pad film from improper break-in proceedure, cracked rotor(s), cracked drum(s), loose wheel bearings, worn bushes, swollen brake hose(s), foreign substance on the drum/rotor (no jokes about the French) etc... Need more info. Mike! |
