MG MGB Technical - Brakes sticking on
After applying the brakes they take several seconds to release fully, resulting in rapid pad wear. Otherwise braking is good. Disconnecting the servo vacuum pipe eliminates the effect. Anyone had this problem on their BGTV8? Is the fault in the master cylinder or the servo? |

Are you using silicone-based brake fluid? |

If you tap brake pedal they should release but Silicone and servo's do not mix very well. Paul |

Check your brake lines. I bet they have deteriorated inside and are now effectively acting as one way valves for your brake fluid, silicone or otherwise. |

If tapping the brake pedal *does* clear it then it is the servo (BTDT, in both a roadster and V8). |

Brake fluid is standard not silicone. Did not think it would be a brake hose as both front brakes ( and possibly reara too ) stick on for s few seconds- a single faulty hose would give asymmentrical fault, I think. Will try tapping the pedal. I've used silicone brake fluid in my TR5 foe many years with great results ( no more corroded wheel cylinders).are MG servos particularly susceptible? The cer seems to brake fine without the servo- I wonder why BL/MG fitted one in the first place, considering the expense. |

Also considering how little difference they make. A friends V8 servo started locking up so badly on tour last year that we disconnected the vacuum hose and plugged it with a spare spark plug. After the first operation of the brakes I didn't notice the difference. I've never heard of silicone fluid and servos not mixing, silcone and hydraulic brake light switches, yes. |
