MG MGB Technical - Break Lights

I am having problems with the break lights. The best I can tell is that the break lights work only when the key is turned on. Is that correct? I have been able to get them to work but only if I move the green wire at the fuse box across from the brown wire. According to all the documentation that I have seen so far is that the purple wires go across from the brown wire. The brown wire is hot all the time and is the directly from the battery. The green wire is across from the white wire. The white wire is hot only when the key is turned on. Am I thinking too modern? That the break lights should work all the time? My old fuse box is really corroded bad and is barely (if any) passing any current from the white wire. I know the White wire is hot because the fuel pump is working now. I have checked with my ohmmeter and I do have current flowing from the key to the fuse. I do not have any current flowing across the fuse. I check and it is the corrosion. I still do not know about the break lights. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Nothing wrong here.

The brake lights are supposed to work only while the ignition switch is "on".

I would suggest, however, that you replace the fuse box and clean up any corrosion involving the
electrical system (especially the battery terminals, and all of those bullet wire connectors) as it will
cause all sorts of odd problems later down the road.
