MG MGB Technical - Capacitor at rear of alternator
I just discovered that the capacitor that was soldered to the large brown wire that goes to the back of the alternator is broken off at the capacitor. I've ordered another one but I was wondering what it does? Also I've noted that my tach has not been working properly over 3500rpm, could this be the problem? I'd appreciate some insight into these things! Thanks, Jim Kalamazoo |

Jim - The capacitor is for Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) reduction - ie. noise in the radio from the alternator or other electrical device (suchas the fuel pump). Theoretically, EMI could be affecting your tach, but it is a long shot. Good luck - Dave |

Thanks David! It's a little less critical than I thought. I was afraid I'd ruin something without it. Regards, Jim |

Jim - worst thing that could happedn is you would hear a whine from the radio. Cheers - Dave |
