MG MGB Technical - car runs rough

Car hard to start, engine and gearbox been out for repairs to automatic gearbox, car did not run to well after this, had it on rolling road, all carbs refurbished and set up still running rough and getting very hot!!
Plugs and leads changed, coil changed, dizzy cap changed, timing set, dwell angle set, car runs alot better but still getting hot (very hot) electronic ignition fitted to the car twelve months ago and started very well after this could this be a problem, all responses gratefully recieved.

In your posting you say that the car is hard to start and once it is running it gets hot. What year is your car and has it any modifications other than electronic ignition? How hot is hot? And is it in this period of hot weather. Most cars will be running hot at present, but they should not boil over. Has yours?

What dwell? Timing? Who set the carbs up? As the engine has been out I'd look at the cooling system as well e.g. thermostat and fans. Whilst my V8 runs a little over N when temps get above 25C my roadster does not, but the auto probably runs a little hotter due to the greater losses. Correctly set up the MGB is not a poor starter and electronic ignition should not make that much difference. If it did, then maybe it temporarily 'cleared' another problem that has now returned with the disturbance.
