MG MGB Technical - carb cough
I have HIF4's on an 18GH engine, stock dizzy. I just got back from a trip to the Abingdon Summer Party here in Illinois. On the trip up and back I was gettign an occasional "Cough" or backfire at the carbs. I hadnt had this problem since I put these carbs on several months ago. The only recent changes I made were new plug wires( bumblebee type, a new hose on the rear carb lower float bowl connection, and new pancake style air filters (same as old just new). Any ideas? |

William; first thing to check is the oil in the carb dampers. If low or out, the piston rises too fast and causes a mometary lean mixture, which will cause it to cough and/or hesitate. Then check your point gap setting in the dizzy. If you have lost the .016" gap, it can cause misfiring as well. I use dielectric grease on the dizzy shaft to help lubricate the block that rides on the lobes. |
