MG MGB Technical - Carb needle collars?
I have twin SU HIF carbs and one of them does not retain any damping oil for longer than a day. It can only be leaking from the needle outlet. If I buy new needles do they come with a replacement collar as this part is not listed in any catelogue. Before anybody tells me that I am over filling the carb it runs dry of damping oil not low within hours. I.e there is no restistance to the damping piston. If anyone can think of another place the oil could be leaking from other than the needle please let me know. As I am thinking of replacing the original air filters with the K&N kit what needles would you recommend? |

Swinging needles come with collars but they aren't intended to keep the oil in. Like I've said twice before the bottom of the damper cylinder has what looks like a pressed-in metal cup (up-ended). If this is missing, damaged or dislodged I can imagine it would allow the oil to leak out in short-order. |
