MG MGB Technical - cleaning a tonneau cover
A couple of weeks ago I bought a parts car that is rusted out beyond repair but had a good used tonneau cover included in the deal. I left it in the hot sun for a week and got it to stretch now where all the snaps will snap. I cleaned it with car soap, and hand sewed up a few places where the stitching came loose. The question is, it's got rust and other stains on the inner side. A good friend of mine in our club said to rub in some hand cleaner with lanolin, like Goop, then throw it in the washing machine, and let it air dry. Has anybody tried this? I've used Goop before on blue jeans and shirts but never thought of using it on a tonneau cover. Does anybody else have any tips or ideas on cleaning a tonneau cover? thanks for all your help, Ken 1974 mgb roadster 1973 MGB parts car 1990 Miata |

I think I used tuff-stuff cleaner and some clean rags to clean mine up. Followed by a good application of 303 aerospace protectant. Good stuff. Free samples - http://www.303products.com/tech/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=113 I use it instead of that armor all crap on all my cars. |
