MG MGB Technical - Clutch creep
A 1967 MGB, with only 52,000 miles. The problem is that when the clutch is depressed in first gear it will lose pressure and after about 10 seconds the car will start to move forward as though the clutch is being released. The clutch master cylinder is new, and not leaking. The slave cylinder has been rebuilt and not leaking. I have just removed the engine and the pressure plate, clutch plate and throw out bearing look to be in good shape. There is signs of leakage from the rubber hose to the slave cylinder. I have heard that these can swell under pressure and leak when they age and under pressure. Has anyone experirenced a similar problem. Thanks Andy |

Andy I have had this, altho not on a B.If your hose looks suspect replace it. It is plainly fluid escaping or air in the system.Once all components are new then thorough bleeding is required, and I recall previous threads on this which indicate that pressure bleeding is preferable bcos there are points in the clutch system where air tends to be trapped Chris |

If there are no visible leaks then the master cylinder seals are leaking back into the reservoir. |

I think the stainless steel braided clutch hose is worth the expense. I had a rubber clutch hose that started leaking after a year. |
