MG MGB Technical - Clutch Slave problems 69 MGB
Just installed a new clutch slave cylinder on my 69 B & the pedal goes to the floor without much resistance. I bled the system & checked the linkage all appears ok. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike |

My bet is that there is still air in it, and you are going to have to stick with it until you overcome it. Hopefully, this is the problem, rather than a master cylinder problem. Go to the archives and check out the entire archive for clutch problems and clutch bleeding, and you will find a bag of info. This will indicate you are not alone with your problem! Also, visit Paul Hunt's website for a very effective approach to this sometimes frustrating problem. As an afterthought, is it possible that the bleed screw is in the reversed, incorrect position? when you buy them, they often are, for some unaccountable reason- bleed should be the uppermost threaded hole, and hose should be the lower. Ken stole my thought. I've put slaves in two different times and each time I attached the hose to the unused top fitting since the bleeder was already attached.(DOH!!) I think it makes it fit the box better. Paul Hunt's method of reverse bleeding works excellently on this system. Also did you replace the clutch MC too? How did you determine the problem was with the slave? |

Mike - Even with the bleeder is the correct position, you can still wind up with air left in the slave cylinder. After bleeding the system, reach up and push the actuating rod all the way back into the slave cylinder, then bleed it again. This pushes any air left in the cylinder back into the line going up to the master cylinder. rebleeding then expells this air and you will have a good system. I even had to do this on my Mazda truck when I replaced the slave cylinder in it. Good luck - Dave |

You are looking at 1/2" to 5/8" of travel of the slave piston. Reverse *filling* (not bleeding) using a gunsons EeziBleed on very low pressure on the slave nipple should eliminate the need for bleeding altogether. |

Paul are you always so correct? (lol) |

Ah, that is for others to say. But I'm still learning ... |
