MG MGB Technical - Crossflow (long)

After diving into the archives, I still have some questions on crossflow cylinder heads.

I already have bought an original HRG Derrington head (found it in the classifieds section of this site) with weber inlet manifolds and I will be installing Dellorto 40 DHLA's with 3"1/4 deep K&N filters. But for now I'm still in the 'investigating-asking questions-looking for parts' phase of the entire proces.

So people doing the conversion or having a crossflow engine, please share your experiences.

1st question: will I still be able to use the Lucas 25D distributor that's currently in the car? I have recently bought a Piranha electronic (yeah, still in the box, NO newtronic) for it and obviously I'd like to use that one. I know that I probably will need a distributor without vacuum. Can the 25D be modified?

2nd question: is there such a thing as a crossflow camshaft? I saw it on this site: http://www.britishclassiccarspares.com/engine.html in the discription of the crossflow engine.
There's a Piper HR285 that I bought at Silverstone this year and I was thinking of installing that one.

3rd question: what kind of ram pipes would I get to use in the air filters? how long should they be? I was thinking of 2"

4rd question: are there other things to look for or to be cautious about?

Kind regards,

Alexander

Hi Alexander,

I'll follow with interest what people say about that since I heard myself both it's great and it doesn't help. I have seen people racing seriously a B, saying it doesn't help because of a strange breathing phenomena (didn't quite get their explication). No doubt though that it looks pretty sexy, I say go with it!

Hi Sir AdvanceALot - 8-)

I suggest you have a chat with Peter about getting the best out of your engine.

Does anybody have any information on the Derrington company, a logo, some documentation, advertisements, articles, ... ?
OR some more technical info (yes, I have emailed Peter a bit ago, I'll send him the head as soon as planning and the financial planning is completed)
I'd really like to know as much as possible about it before starting the process and just out of interest too.

Regards,

Alexander
