MG MGB Technical - Dead Tach
I know this has been discussed before but I can't find it in the archives. I am in the process of installling the stage 1 kit from Brit-Tek in my 77 B. Started it up last nite ran fine. However the tach is dead. I'm sure it is associated with the pertronix ignition. Lots of spare wires left after removal of factory stuff. I have probably left off a lead to the coil but not sure. Again, the car started right up, just no tach. Any help is appreciated. Dan H. |

Hi Dan. I think that your car will be fitted with the later tacho which requires voltage pulses from the points to operate. The engine will run fine without the tacho connected. These pulses are 'collected' from the points and delivered to the tacho via a white / black wire. I wouldn't experiment with connections, there may be a risk of damage to the tacho from a high energy system. I am not familiar with the Pertronix system.. can someone else help ?. Don |

I think I fixed the problem. Connected the white/black pair of wires to the neg terminal of the coil. Tach works. Dan H. |
