MG MGB Technical - different fuel pumps over the years?
I have a 79 with a small round fuel pump mounted on the cross member just in front of the fuel tank. On my 74cB, I have an aftermarket pump where I think the correct pump should be, on the right, under the floor, next to the frame. Can I use the pump from the 79 and where is the correct place to mount the pump? Were the pumps the same over the years and were mounting locations changed over the years? Thanks again!! |

Unless I'm mistaken, there were only two pumps used on MGBs -- both the familiar SU points-style pump. One was for negative earth cars, the other for positive earth. About the time of the switch from SU carbs to ZS, the pump was moved from below the car by the battery to inside the boot. If I had my parts book handy I'd verify this. You might check Moss's online catalogue for confirmation.... |

Yes, the mounting locations were different, but they are essentially the same pump. You may have to modify the mounting and fuel connections if I remember clearly. |
