Jim, I went through somehting simmilar a little while ago, only I spun my 25D to bits and I had a new 45 at home. The answer is that there is too much mechanical advance with the 45D distributor and I've been told that will cause ppinging in the earlier High compresion motors. The story with the vacuume advance is that you don't really need it, it gives you a bit better mileage on the highway, and th car might sputter a bit when you gear down without it. With that said, an easy fix would be a Crane Electronic ignition. It replaces everything inside your distibutor, and it makes no difference if your distributor shaft is worn. So if you don't worry about the vacuume advnce, then throw in a Crane ireball ignition and you're set |

Jim, I would probably run the 45D while getting the 25D rebuilt by John Twist at University Motors. A wobbling dizzy shaft will give erratic timing, no matter what electronic conversion has been accomplished. |
