MG MGB Technical - Dot 4, Dot 5 or brake grease?

In the manuals, it says to use brake fluid to lubricate the seals in the master cylinder when undertaking a rebuild.
What if I don’t know which type of brake fluid I am going to use? I don’t know if I am going with Dot 4 or Dot 5, and if I use one to put the parts together, and then use the other in the whole system, won’t there be a problem?
I am doing a complete replacement-rebuild of all the parts, including the pipes. I usually use brake grease to install the rubber parts, but I am not sure if that is the correct thing to do.

Brake grease works fine. All you are doing is lubricating the rubber parts so the seals edges don't fold over or tear. Cheers - Dave

I think the original spec was Dot 2 but that was back in the sixties. Things have moved on since then. Dot 4 or 5 will be fine. 4 will be cheaper though
