MG MGB Technical - Engine run in...now what oil

Hi all,
I've just passed the 500 mile mark so time to drain out the 30 grade oil and fill with 20/50. What is recommended and what about ZDDP. What oils have enough and if not what additive to use. I know this has probably been discussed at length but what is currently on the market in the UK? 1968 model B

Morris Oils, Castrol and Halfords all do a "classic" 20/50 which are suitable for our engines.

In both my V8 and midget I use Valvoline VR1 20-50. This was recommended to me by Real Steel the V8 specialists in London who machined and balanced my V8 for me. It is an older fashioned oil and is highly suitable for engines with flat tappets. I buy 4 gallons at a time from an ebay seller as it is hard to find in the shops.

VR1 is all I use in both my MGB and my MGTD.

All those oils are OK, but the highest ZDDP of any of the everyday oils is Penrite. Almost twice that of VR1. I use their "Classic Medium" in my supercharged B but in your case with a new motor and cooler climate I would use "Classic Light" My engine has done 100,000 miles 40,000 with the blower. I fitted a special SC cam and lifters two years ago and the old cam and lifters could have gone around again. Itd a great oil. Denis
