MG MGB Technical - Facet Fuel Pump
Morning Folks I have just fitted a Facet silver top fuel pump to my mgb roadster and noticed it ticks even when not pumping fuel. ( I have even put my finger over the supply pipe to the carbs, so there is no leakage) My old standard SU pump stopped ticking as sooon as pressure was reached. Do I have a faulty pump or is this a characteristic of these pumps? Your help would be appreciated. Regards Dave Tetlow |

David, it's normal for that type fuel pump to keep on ticking. If it stops ticking you have a problem. Clifton |

Yep! As Clifton said, it should constantly tick as long as it has power. You should notice it get quieter when the fuel system is pressurised (i.e. the bowls are full and the needle valve are shut)..... HTH! |

Thanks Clifton and Rob. Regards Dave |

Dave - The Facet pumps have a by pass valve in them that sets the outlet pressure and is also the cause of the pump running continually. If you don't like listening to the constant noise, then mount the pump on some sound mounts. Sound mounts are available from Pegesus Racing at: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/advcat.asp?CategoryID=AIRFUEL There are also sound mounts available from Mercedes parts departement, but I don't know the part number to ask for. Cheers - Dave |
