MG MGB Technical - facet fuel pumps
hi everyone, does anyone have any knowledge about the facet fuel pump. i have got 4 of these and was wondering if they could be used on the 1970 bgt. thanks bob. |

G'day Bob. The only thing you need to look out for is the delivery pressure. SU carbies seem to object to anything much above 4PSI. I once had no end of problems with a similar pump that was, as I found out, delivering 5.5PSI. Constant flooding problems were encountered. Tony |

Bob - Tony is correct, make sure that the one you are intending to use is a low pressure (2.5 - 4 psi). Also you are going to want to get some sound mounts for the pump - they run continuously and are noisy as all get out. Cheers - Dave |

Bob, Check the pressure rating as the others have said - as far as I know the cylindrical Facet pumps start at 4-5.5 psi and go up from there. The square Facet pumps are the lower-pressure ones quite a few of us use. David |

Bob, this is the same one I use and mine is not all that noisy. Perhaps Dave was thinking of the infamous "cube" pump that Facet also sells. In either case tho, isolation mounts are necessary to quiet them down for minimum sound transmission into the cabin. I have even seen some "suspended" from the overhead body work to accomplish this. And yes, get the lowest pressure unit you can get, if possible. However, it has been my experience that most aftermarket fuel pumps are not all that consistent or accurate in their output pressure. I ended up using an Edelbrock fuel pressure regulator with mine and setting for about 2.5 psi. I have noticed recently that Purolator sells one also made by Facet that looks like the one in the attached photo. No idea what it is like soundwise, but it is the latest from them. |
