I have removed the airpump, rails and everything connected to the emission stuff. Now I want to get rid of the cannisters and wonder what happens when I replace the standard rocker cover, with breather, by an alloy cover without breather. Will a vented cap or something be enough or will the pressure run up to high? Carl |

Carl, Do you have a vented cover on the side of the engine? On the older models, that one is connected to the inlet manifold, you don't state which one you have. If you have a vented cover but no connection to the inlet manifold, you could always just install one of those little K&N breather filters. I don't have a clue as to whether a vented cap will be enough though, what I've written above is just what other people have told me when I had a similar question. Groeten, Alex |

Alex, I think we are talking two different things here, I was refering to the rocker cover which I want to replace with an alloy one. Because I want to take out the absorbtion cannisters I want to buy a cover without breathing pipe but I'm not sure if that's OK The side cover with the venting pipe is of course fitted. The pipe is connected to both carbs but I'm not sure this will allow all surplus pressure to get away. Carl. B.T.W is that your engine shown on Chris' site? |

Yes, That's my engine. On the ventilation subject: my mechanic told me one only needs or a vented rocker cover (by a vented cap or some sort of connection to cannisters or ...) or a vented side cover. The reason only one is needed appears to be that crankcase and the space in the rocker cover are connected through the holes in which the pushrods move. Could be wrong of course! Alex |

Why remove it? It has absolutely no effect on performance and does actually help air quality.... My suggestion would be to rebuild the cannister and keep it on the car: http://www.shadetreemg.com/cannister.htm Cheers! Rob |

Well if you compare the bits & pieces under a Calif. spec MGB with a European one you have to admit that the USA spec makes it a mess. I would like to clean out as much rubbish as I can. Not only does it look better but mainly because everything connected can brake down. It's always easier to search for a fault in 20 parts than in 40. Furthermore because it has never been a european feature there are parts which are hard to find or you have to pay to much money because it's "rare". |
