MG MGB Technical - First hot day driving the B
well today was the first day to solidly land in the 90's. I have a question. I had been driving for about 30 minutes on my way home and the B was blasting my driving foot with hot air. I made sure I had the heater off and temp turn down but it was still hotter than hell on my foot. Is this normal or is my heat on permenantly? |

Your heater valve is probably not completely shutting off the coolant supply to the core. Not a big deal, if you don't mind the warm toes. You might try moving the lever just a bit further in the direction of "off" on the valve itself...it might help. A cable adjustment might also resolve the problem (can be tricker than it sounds). In the grand scheme of things, this is pretty minor. |

Josh. It was 104 today, in the shade. The factory designed valve is not the greatest. Not a real problem in the UK. I did my honeymoon there in July. Almost froze my tail off, and I had just spent a winter in Alaska. The best system is to use Bob Muenchausen's design of heater control valve which will shut the water flow off completely. Les |

Josh, here is the URL for the valve page that Les speaks of. http://hometown.aol.com/akamrmg/index.html It can help immensely. However, don't forget that there is supposed to be a rubber plug in the firewall between the cabin and the back side of the Brake and clutch cylinders. This plug provides access to the hydraulic fittings when necessary, but seals out the hot air from the engine compartment. If it is missing, you will need to buy a replacement. |

With the mark 1's there also should be a rubber seal around the pedals otherwise you're enjoying the same environment as your engine. A rubber glove is a good temp' substitute if the part isn't availiable. (put the pedals through two fingers.) Looks bizare though, like you've got a cow growing out of your foot well. |
