MG MGB Technical - Fitting a servo to a LHD MGB

Does anyone know if it's posible to fit a servo to a LHD MGB fitted with a tandem master cylinder.

Don't see why you couldn't fit a remote servo, but you would have to select which circuit to insert it into. The front would make sense ... :o)

If you have a tandem LHD car you will have a brass block on the LH inner wing. This has a brake pressure imbalance sensor in it that activates the brake failure warning light. If you introduce a remote servo to either of the circuits I believe you will need to immobilse the sensor.

My car was like yours when I bought it. I found the brake pressure imbalance sensor to be problematic. So I immobilised mine anyway. Also the tandem master was a pig to rebuild.

If you intend to convert to RHD at any point I would leave such upgrades untill then as you will have to replumb your brakes at that stage anyway.

A alternative worth considering is using the direct acting servo late rubber bumper brake set up. If you do this while still in LHD you will have a conflict with the rear air filter. There are cone shaped K&N filters available to deal with this problem.

Thankks for the replies, I think fitting a remote servo to a dual circuit brake system is asking for trouble and may even be illegal. I had thought of fitting a direct acting servo but was unsure if there was enough space around the carbs. I don't intend to convert to RHD, I am hoping to take the car to France next summer when we go to our holiday home.

started off on this way a couple of years ago with a friends LHD BGT. after consulting a local specialist, he recommended that we changed the brakes from dual circuit to single, then fitted the remote servo. which after some head scratching, was pretty much what we had decided was the most feasible anyway. and, though i know most folks will disagree, i felt it was a lot of effort for nothing - after all of the work, i wasnt convinced that the brakes were that much easier to apply, but then, i hadnt really found them too bad to begin with.

This concurs with my own experiences of going the other way - the remote servo makes very little difference as it was only an option for some of the time at least.
