MG MGB Technical - Fitting Chrome Bumpers
Hi all Need ur help, have just purchased a 78 roadster for new project and want to convert it to chrome bumpers & grill. Can this be done and has any1 done it ?? Also car seems to suffer from fuel starvation (fails to start or will stall while driving) if theres less than 1/2 tank of fuel, the fuel pump is working fine, just seems unable to pump fuel if theres under 1/2 tank of fuel ?? Any advice & help would be greatly appreciated. |

David, This bumper conversion has been done before, some better than others. I did mine 17 years ago, and would be glad to answer any questions you have (off-list). However, I think you will find the following website useful. http://www.aote99.dsl.pipex.com/mgb_chrome/index.htm Enjoy Pete |

Many Thanks Pete If I have any problems I'll give u a shout. Shall start the conversion on Monday as I'm off for a week, shall hope it doesn't take the whole week hehe. |

All pretty straightforward but do invest in a high quality blade for your hacksaw if you cut back the rubber front mounting plates. It took me minutes with a relatively expensive branded blade. My usual "10 for a pound" variety hardly marked the surface before sticking and I'd probably have had more effect trying to gnaw through metal with my teeth. The fuel thing sounds like a vacuum forming in the tank as it empties - is the breather pipe clear? Do you hear a whoosh as you open the cap? |

David: Check with a few companies over in the UK. (MG World Magazine have a few advertising) Most of them offer a conversion kit for RB 'Bs'. |
