MG MGB Technical - fixing for foot operated dip switch
I've just taken out the old carpets (actually rubber mats) out from my reshelled roadster. It is from '68 so has the foot operated dip switch. I presume that the new shell did not have the captive nuts to attach this switch as I had one heck of a job getting the bolts out singlehanded. There is no way I can use a separate nut to fix this switch back in without taking the engine out! Any suggestions as to what sort of fixing to use that is 'single sided'? A quarter inch self tapper? |

You can use large self tappers but I prefer rivnuts, you can get them in various sizes but I'm not sure about imperial sizes. I use M6 which you can re-tap to, I think, 3/8 UNF. If you don't have a tool to set them you can make one quite easily. Bob |

Because I am 6'4" I removed the dip switch from my 1963 MGB and fitted a later indicator/dipper/headlight flasher on the column. I covered the later switch with the standard shroud but I did do some internal mods with a Dremel to fit the bigger switch. The modifications to the wiring were very simple and of course, reversable. It makes a big difference for me because I can now put my left foot above or below the clutch pedal on long trips by using the space vacated by the foot operated dipper. I appreciate your later car will have a smaller foot operated dip switch. Ian |
