MG MGB Technical - flooding carbs
I know there have been a lot of posts on flooding ,But i can't seem to find one that address's this situation. I have a 70 B with float bowels on side of carbs, I had a problem with gas coming out overflow of the front bowel and replaced with gross jet but left old float in , every thing was fine. then after week or two , would not start smelled gas was flooded. I replaced rear float as I had ordered one plus gross jet. I made sure both floats in adjustment and had plugs out to let gas evaporate..Car started right up and drove it all day even left it cool of some. Next morning went to start flooded again. It appears sitting overnight caused it to flood ? I did not pull choke to start . Any help to lead me in a direction would be appreciated. Bob J |

Bob, Check the overflow tube for the rear carb. If it is plugged, it will cause flooding as it also serves as a vent for the float bowls. I would also suggest going back to the Viton tipped needle valves, present day Gross jets are not as trouble free as they were years ago when they first came out. Finally, what kind of fuel pump are you using? If it is not a SU pump, you could be getting too much pressure from the pump. Pump pressure should not be more that 3.8 psi. Cheers - Dave |

Are you parking nose down on a steep drive? This happened with a friends B to the extent that the oil became diluted with fuel!!!! I cured it with a fuel cut off valve. |
