MG MGB Technical - fuel continues to shoot out of rear float!
I've installed a set of rebuilt HS4's onto my '80 MGB. I'm having a problem with the rear carb overflowing fuel. So I swapped in a new set of SU brand needle valves in both carbs as well as a new float into the rear float chamber and replaced both pins fo rboth float assemblies. Floats themselves seem to be airtight and not leaking fuel in). New brass washers underneath the needle valves as well and both floats measure app. 1/4" from the face of the float cover when inverted. I also did the test where I blew into the rear float inlet and slowly applied pressure the float to see if the valve was closing off and it is. I checked the fuel pump and it's an Ecco 1-5. Seems to be a popular replacement and couldn't really find any info on it's output. I've taken pictures of the routing on the carbs and everyone else claims I've got things the right way around so anyone have any ideas that I could try? |

RON.. I BET THAT YOU HAVE A FUEL PRESSURE PROBLEM. YOU MIGHT NEED EITHER A NEW PUMP OR A PRESSURE REGULATOR. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH A CUSTOMERS MGB-GT. IT TURNED OUT HTAT HE HAD PURCHASED AN OFF BRAND PUMP THAT WAS PUTTING OUT 4.5 LBs. THE REGULATOR CURED IT. SANDY |
