MG MGB Technical - Fuel Filter
I suspect my inline fuel filter is gunked up. I don't know where it is and if it is accessable. Any help would be appreciated. |

BJL, I don't know exactly where it is either, and I also have no idea what year MGB you have. They made them for almost 20 years. Also, there is no reason to expect that it is still in the same place in which it was when it left the factory. But, I can assure you that, if you have one, it is between the gas tank and the carburetors. Look under the hood first. If it is not there, look under the car. Charley |

Charley states "But, I can assure you that, if you have one, it is between the gas tank and the carburetors." That's a pretty safe bet, but if you find that it is between the tank and the pump, it should be moved to the other side of the pump. A clogged filter on the inlet side of SU fuel pump can damage the pump. See the article, SU Fuel Pumps Facts and Myths in the SU Fuel Pump Articles section of my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/ Cheers - Dave |

The factory only ever put them in the engine compartment, and only on 'later' models. Near the firewall with SUs where the main fuel pipe was teed from the rear carb to feed the front, and by the inner wing on later single carb installations or where the main feed fed the front carb only, which then had an additional port to feed the rear carb. |
