MG MGB Technical - fuel injection

has anyone installed the Moss fuel injection on a 74B
Was it worth the cost?

I have been tempted. Since I run A/C, under hood heat was a problem with S.Us and Mikunis. The Weber is heat stable and performs well enough so I decided to avoid the costly experiment with fuel injection.

The fuel injection should be very heat tolerant with many of the attendant advantages found with modern ECU managed engines.

I've installed it in my '73. It works just as advertised right out of the box. Installation was relatively easy and straightforward. The instructions are clear and accurate, and my car started up on the first try.

Since it's a one-size-fits-all kit meant for the average home mechanic, it comes without a few important bits like O2 sensors, crank and cam position sensors, etc. Those things aren't *absolutely* necessary, but not adding them limits what you can do in terms of tuning. As for the cam/crank sensors, I'm running fuel-only for now (the Microsquirt works fine with my pertronix distributor), planning on adding the timing items next winter.

One huge note of caution: Your electrical system should be pretty much 100%. Bad ground connections will have you chasing your tail trying to troubleshoot any problems. Before installing the EFI, I completely replaced the old wiring loom.

tl;dr version: The kit works fine, but don't expect miracles. For me, installing it was all about the challenge of doing something different.

Hi Rick, Thank you for your comments. How is under-hood heat tolerance? This is the main reason I have considered that EFI might be an important upgrade, especially with alcohol laced fuels. Over about 90°F, the B suffers, especially running the A/C in traffic. It is difficult to start when very hot after stalling at a traffic light.

I don't have any current pics, but I recreated something like in the attached pic (taken from here:https://www.mgexp.com/forum/mgb-and-gt-forum.1/cold-air-intake-box-for-mga-and-mgb.1457613/): A cold air box that takes its input from in front of the radiator surround. Works fine.

Considering the kit comes with an IAT that can be placed into the old Coopers cans - which would/should fit nicely - you shouldn't have any problems anyway.

is this the Cobalt EFI marked N/A? or something else?
Graham Moore

It's the Cobalt kit, yes.
