MG MGB Technical - Fuel Pump

I have a 72 B with what I think is a non MGB fuel pump. The best way to describe it is the pump has and outlet at the top and the bottom and the black wire that's suppose to go to the top of the fuel pump doesn't have a home. Any ideas what it could be. By the way I just received this car it hasn't ran in over ten years we are trying to get it started. If you would like a picutre I could send it to people that respond and want to see it.
