MG MGB Technical - Fuel Pump
I have a 1973 MGB GT and the fuel pump is leaking. I have been trying to buy a replacement, the AZX1307EN, but nobody has them in stock, apparently some problem with the bodies at the manufacturers. Same story with the points version also. I wonder whether anyone can suggest a satisfactory alternative, preferably with the same banjo fittings as original if possible? Many thanks. |

Where is it leaking from? Is it not fixable? Midlands Sports & Classics say they are 'back in stock' http://www.midlandsportsandclassics.co.uk/ |

The leak appears to be coming from the body of the pump. I hoped it might have been leaking washers around the banjo connectors, but it doesn't look like it. |

the lack of fuel pumps may (I don't know for sure) have been down to Q&H sudden departure unless you're a very strict originality person avoid the IMO PITA points and go with the more modern electronic versions |

Paul - The areas of the pump bodies that are most likely to leak are 1) the banjo fittings: 2) the inlet smoothing chamber lid (large dome shaped lid held in place with a single hex head 2BA screw: 3) the coil housing to pump body interface and 4) the outlet flow smoothing chamber lid (top hat shaped cover held in place by 4 screws). If you can do it, dry the exterior of the pump completely, turn the ignition on (remove the power from the coil while doing this) and start wiping the lower portions of the 4 places listed above with a paper towel, checking the towel after each wipe for a wet spot - My bet it that it is either one of the banjo fittings, the inlet smoothing chamber lid or the coil housing to pump body interface. You can get gaskets for each area from Burlen Fuel Systems (just tightening the 6 screws around the coil housing to pump body interface should cure a leak in that area). Cheers - Dave |
