MG MGB Technical - Fuel pump change
I'm attempting to change the fuel pump and when I loosen the supply line to the pump the gas pours out. Will the gas keep running out until I drain the tank? Should I siphon the tank dry first? Please help! Thanks, Dave |

Yes, it will keep pouring out unless you clamp the hose or drain the tank. Clamping the hose may damage it. It would be a good idea to replace the two hoses anyway if they are more than a few years old. My 69B has a plug in the bottom of the tank. I am not sure when they stopped installing a drain plug, but it you dont have one you may have to siphon off most of the fuel, and then have a small bucket to catch the remainder. |

My brain kicked in right after I posted my question. I disconnected the fuel supply line on the side of the fuel tank and the problem was solved. |

I quickly stop-up the hose using a piece of solid brass rod. |

Dave Beaware of the orientation of the pump when you refit it. I had a problem when I did mine in that I didnt put it back correctly and had the inlet and exit feeds at the bottom of the pump. They need to be right at the top for the pump to work correctly. TJ |

Bolt or smooth metal rod and tighten down the hose clamp on it. Works like a champ. John |
