MG MGB Technical - Fuel pump connections
Does anyone know the male tread type @ size to fit into the the later type SU fuel pump on my 1970 B. The Moss catalog calls for a special banjo bolt at the outlet. Will anything that fits with a hose barb work just as well. |

Hi, I changed the banjo set up at the fuel pump years ago to a couple of regular brass fittings. Can't remember the size of thread. Take the banjo and the spacial bolt that goes through it to a shop that sells brass fittings, they should be able to match it for you. Its important that if you decide to reinstall the banjo stuff that the hole in the bolt lines up with the hole in the banjo. Draw a line across the head on the bolt fitting to indicate where the hole is, so that you can line them up for best fuel flow. Years ago I misaligned them and took me awhile to figure out why my B was leaning out at high speed -restriction of fuel flow at banjo union due to misalignment. Set up properly it worked better, though I eventually changed over to brass fittings. Howl you purists as I pass you by the roadside. Alan :-) |

One more thing on these Pumps I see Two very small air pipes or vent tubes on the pump body. Are these supposed to be connected to something as it seems that they could very easily become clogged with road dirt. |

They are supposed to be connected, but are begging to be ignored, and I gave in to them some years ago. They have repaid my kinfness. Ken R |

They are supposed to go to tubes in trunk for ventilation. Not really needed. I'd seal them up to stop dirt getting in the pump. |
