MG MGB Technical - Fuel pump mounting

What is the proper mounting of an SU fuel pump...inlet and outlet port facing forward (outlet port therefore on top) or facing aft (outlet port therefore on the bottom)?? Does it matter?

Steve - The pump must be mounted with the ports facing forward so the outlet port is on the top. If you look at the pump body near the outlet port, you will see TOP printed next to the port. I am not sure that the pump wouldn't work if mounted upside down as the vlaves, unlike the earlier pumps for the T series cars and the MGA, are not affected by gravity, but SU must have had some rational for wanting the outlet port at the top (maybe it is a symmetry thing). David- Thanks a bunch for the information. I come to this site every few days and look for threads that may help me put my 73 back together. I came here tonight just to find out how to install this pump. (and which line goes where.) Thanks again.
