MG MGB Technical - Fuel Pumps again
My AC fuel pump on my 65-B went ClickClickClick NotNotNot and it took my 13yoa son and I 2hrs (30 min trip) to get from Clifton Forge > Lexington using a FIX-A-FLAT can to beat on it to get us home. He was the light holder and thought it was funny but I did catch him looking into the woods making sure "Chucky" wasn't around. I was going to replace it with the original. However, It would include replacing the lines because the original fittings have been cut-off, or purchasing the adapters that allow you to use rubber hose at the cost of $25.00 plus the $120.00 for the SU pump. Is there a fuel pump that really works good where I don't have to spend $150.00? I looked at the little purolator at Advance but was not impressed. Steve C. |

Steve ; If the " little Purolator " pump is round and sliver colored , I can vouch for it ! one has been on my old '67 GT that gets daily yeoman service plus hard runs through the mountains & canyons , works a treat and is the cheapest one I've yet seen (well, new anyway) for sale . It's well over 15 years old and still going strong . -Nate |

A better choice from Advance Auto is PA 5773407, Fuel Pump E8016S, the output is about 2-4 psi. One has been on my 74 for over 2 1/2 years. Cost was $30.49 with a limited lifetime warranty, yes it's a round gold colored pump. I think it may be for a Hyuntdia or a Subaru. It makes a little noise until the fuel bowls are full and after thak I never notice it. Bob Thompson works on British cars for a living and he uses a Honda Accord fuel pump from around 82-83. I do use a regulator on my pump, but ran it for a year without one. Clifton |

I am going to give the NAPA inline fuel pump part #P60504 a shot at $50.00 unless someone has had a horrible experience with one. I will post my findings later. Steve |

The NAPA pump is the same pump that Moss sells for $89 and is also the Purolator pump. All made in US at same place, also sold by JC Whitney. It is a small rectangular pump and comes in various psi. Most MGB people use the 1.5 to 2.5 psi as it seems the 2.5 t0 4.5 floods the bowls. Cost 35 at napa and jc whitney. |

Steve - The only problem with the NAPA unit you are talking about is that they are extremely noisy and never stop running, even after the float bowls are full. Other than that they are a good pump. Good luck - Dave |
