MG MGB Technical - Fuel Tank/Sending Part II
Thanks for the support on the first Thread. I have cleaned off the sending unit on the gas tank, removing dirt/tar/paint. And now can better understand how the locking ring works. Question: Looking at the sending unit, the wire is located on the bottom, the integral pick up line is above the wire, with the end pointing about a 45 degree angle towards the front of the "B". Is this the correct position to install the new unit? I have looked for pictures, can't find any to double check correct placement. The reason I want to make sure is that I've had numerous "other" parts, over the years, I've changed not installed to standards. Most directions only say to reverse procedures to install new part. So, if anybody has a 79 mgb roadster or one using the sending unit with the integral pick-up line, and could check to make sure this is the correct position for the sending unit.... I sure would like to know. Parts on order, just need some help to make sure it goes together in the correct manner. Safety Fast, Don 1979 MGB Roadster, Carmine Red |

Don, The sending unit will only install in one position, due to the positioning tobs on tyhe sender being offset to one side. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but I don;t think that it's possible to install in backwards. Joe |

Ok Joe, thanks for the reply! After I sent the note, I figured that if I hold the unit the right way before installing (placing in the tank) it wouldn't matter where the wire and tube ends up. Just want to make sure it goes together ok. Enjoy your day! Don |

On senders without the pickup tube there is a little notch in the edge of the sender (as the top as I remember) and hence a little pip on the tank it engages with. |
