MG MGB Technical - Full tonneau question
Hi I have a 77 UK roadster. When I bought the car it came with a full tonneau, which until recently spent two years under my bed. I have now fitted it to the car (bit of hard work!), and wondered if anyone can explain what the point of all the zips and velcro is. The zip down the middle I can understand. What are there zips behind the headrests for? (incidently I had to remove my head rests as my toneau doesn't have the pockets for them). Are these zips intended to make it easier to fit? What is the arrangenment of flaps and velcro above the B posts all about? It almost looks like it's for letting the roof bars pass through with the roof up! Is it for a roll bar? Cheers for any help to satisfy my curiousity. Darren |

The zipper behind the head rest allows the cover to be folded/rolled out of the way so you can use the seatbelt. |

Thanks Kimberly, that makes sense (although my seatbelts are non-original retractables bolted to the wheel arch so I won't need those zips! How about the flaps of material with two press-a-dots, one each side, a little forwartd of the headrests (if I had them)? cheers Darren |

The short side zips allow you to keep the rear of the cover attached to the car with the cockpit exposed. The flaps you mention should have some LTD fasteners that attach to the studs on the front of the battery box behind the seats. Clausager has a good picture. Hope this makes sense. Paul |

They are to fasten it down so that it "encloses" the rear shelf, and doesn't flap around or get caught in the seat. |

Yes, there are or should be lift the dot studs to secure the toneau. Unzip the little zippers behind the seats, fold under (long way towards the center of the car), roll in a manner that gives you a smooth vertical surface facing the back of the seats, attach the lift the dot snaps that are on little flaps. If you have a Bentley manual look in the owner's manual section under "Locks, Fittings, and Body" figure #31. If you don't have a manual, Chris at Octarine Services has one on his website http://www.octarine-services.co.uk Click on the forums button and you should be able to find it. D. Lewis- Did you try reclining the seats with the headrests to see if the toneau cover would fit with the headrests? I have the headrest pockets on mine but my driver's seat is is not adjusted to where the headrest on the driver's side will line up with the pocket. I usually fold the seat forward towards the steering wheel to put my cover on when I stop to shop. Kimberly |
