MG MGB Technical - Garbox crossmember - '72 Roadster
Some words of comfort from the wise please. I've just loosely assembled the gearbox mountings on the bench to make sure I knew what was what. With all parts properly aligned vertically I see the distance from the bottom of the lower mount to the crossmember is about 10mm. Obviously nothing's under compression yet but I was surprised at the initial size of the gap. Is this normal? It also means that without reducing the gap the lower bracket screws do not align with the captive nuts. I.e. they enter the nut at an angle. When assembling the top and lower brackets with the pin I've done the nut on the vertical pin up as far as it would go. This obviously has the effect of pulling the lower bracket up from the crossmember. Is that part of the problem or will it all sort itself out once mounted on the car? |

Hi Richard Take a look at John Twist's 'video' on YouTube(University Motors) - the video covers the particulars of the different gearbox crossmembers for the MGB. Just a suggestion /Moss |

Richard, Had a problem somewhat similar with my midget not so long ago - the rubber mounts being sold were the incorrect thickness - no surprise there them ! Just would not line up without distortion. Ended up reusing some other secondhand original rubber mounts tht fitted fine. If you have originals kicking about I suggest you compare them. R. |

Hi Richard. The new mounts are pretty well exactly the same as the old...but a lot cleaner! Hi Moss. I can play the videos but when I try to go from page 1 to page 2 of the listings the site comes up with "Error 404 Not Found". I'll try the youtube route. Thanks for the suggestions. |
