MG MGB Technical - Generator to Alternator
I want to replace the generator in my 67 MGB to an alternator while converting to negative earth. I see that I will need a modified bracket since the alternators are shorter and will need to replace the Regulator with a Control Unit. Any suggestions or warnings? Is there a rear bracket available? |

William, use an alternator with an internal regulator rather than having the external control box. You should be able to find a lot on this change in the archives. |

William, Moss carries the rear alternator bracket for the conversion. I believe it was originally used for later midgets. I have it installed on my '67 Roadster. Ray |

William - Be sure to include one of the "This Car Wired Negative Ground" stickers (available from Moss) on the slam panel so that anyone servicing the car and any future owners will know that the polarity has been changed. Cheers - Dave |

William The Moss bracket works well. I did have a little problem getting it to fit. The holes on the one I received were ever so to narrow. A slight filing and it fit fine. Lucas alternators are readily available from most of the auto parts stores. I used Advanced Auto. From there. It is really easy to change from your regulator. The archives also contain a lot of information on using other brands of alternators. I left my old regulator box on the sidewall just for looks. |
