MG MGB Technical - Grose Jet
Posted 18 December 2006 at 02:35:20 UK time I'd like to find out about a Grose jet for our cars. My carburetoris a Solex 32 PBIC. They were very similar to the Zenith-Stromberg carburetors of that era. In fact, rebuild kits are interchangeable I believe. So, I was thinking maybe one of the Grose jets supplied for the post 1974 MGB, Sprite, and midgets might be the same. Those cars used a Zenith-Stromberg NOT a SU Carburetor. I measured the threaded end and the hex for screwing it into the carburetor top. The Threaded portion is 11.90 mm diameter or about 15/32 inches. The hex is 14.35 mm or about 9/16 inches. I was thinking that maybe the Grose Jet from Moss with model number 386-350 might be this size. This is what I would like to have checked out. If it is not this size maybe you can ask if they have any that are that size. It would be for the Zenith NOT the SU. Thanks for any help or direction to a resourse.....Marvin |

What I can say is that Grose 'jets' (they are valves, not jets) have fallen into disfavour on MGBs due to changes in production methods and/or materials. If you are having problems with the standard float valves then something else is wrong, either dirt in the fuel or too much pressure. SUs at least don't like any more than 2-3 psi, some aftermarket pumps deliver much more than that and need a pressure reducing valve as well ... or the proper pump! |

I agree with Paul, grose jets don't seem to be what they once were. Try to get Viton tipped needle and seats. If they are the same as SU's try Joe Curto for the new parts, he has a website. |
