MG MGB Technical - GT Canvas sunroof supplier?

I'm looking for a supplier that offers a full length good quality sunroof kit for the GT.

Been thinking about buying a second hand one but then again if i'm going to fit one to my car i figured new is the way to go, otherwise I could get second hand runners, auxiliaries and just exchange the roof.

Has anyone on here taken upon themselves to fit a roof to a B, tips and pointers? Things to look for out look out for?

Regards
Alex

Alex - in 2015 I successfully fitted a new Webasto sunroof to our '73 BGT. I purchased the complete kit for about 650 GBPounds from RSCoachbuild in Blackheath, London. Obviously the freight to Australia added a bit to that. I couldn't fault the kit, although follow-up questions on the detail of fitting it, were not well answered. Fortunately, I tracked down a legendary installer of Webasto sunroofs, Peter Harvey who lives in Kent. Peter has been installing Webasto brand for 40 years! He was extremely helpful in answering a stream of emailed questions, often overnight, sharing photos and generally encouraging. I have his contact details.
From my research, you should first establish whether you prefer a Webasto brand sliding sunroof, or one of the other offerings such as Britax (if available now). For my money, it was always going to be the "real deal", Webasto. I would not contemplate re-using any secondhand parts - the Webasto kit is complete down to the last screw, and of high quality.
The Fitting Instructions together with some gallery photos are on the RSCoachbuild website - I found the best way to tackle the job was to enlist the help of a local motor trimmer the do the fiddly bits of upholstery sewing/glueing along the way - but I was able to prepare the hole in the roof; install the wooden frame; assemble and install the internal portion of the roof with sliding metal sticks; and install the top canvas cover - with the motor trimmer preparing the top cover for me and finishing off the headlining.
I have kept a number of photos along the way if it's of interest to you. Also there were two articles in Practical Classics magazine that were helpful, and featured Peter Harvey's tips. I still have those articles.
I hope this helps. Kind regards, John Hall.

Thanks guys, I'll look in to the webasto supplier.

John, if it's not to much trouble would you please send me the pictures and info you gathered while doing yours?

Alex - the photos are various progress shots, which I'll try to have put together in dropbox form or similar; I'll keep your email address on file. The information was mainly clarifications we sought from Peter Harvey, on days when we found the Webasto Fitting Instructions not clear enough. You might not need the same level of help, if you get better support than I did from RS Coachbuilds. Also, I would strongly recommend you get help from someone like Peter Harvey if you tackle the job yourself. Living where I do, I had no choice but to have a go myself, but would not hesitate to pay an experienced Webasto installer if one was available!Regards, John.

Also, Alex - the Practical Classics article were useful: either Sep and Oct or Oct and Nov. 2010.

No worries, Graham - looks as though I should do a potted summary of my trials and tribulations! But as you live in the UK, at least you can find experienced Webasto fitters if you need to.

I must say though that not for one minute do I regret the effort involved - I (sadly) remember the Webasto fitted to BGTs "back in the day", and I love that I now have a freshly painted, interior retrimmed Glacier White BGT with newly installed Webasto.

I'll keep your email details and shoot you a summary, but we have a son's wedding using wedding cars tunbridge wells coming up so it might not be for a few weeks, if that's ok.

Regards, John.
