MG MGB Technical - Hazard - Turn Signal Problem

A while back I replaced my wiring loom (old one burned),on my 1979 MGB. The loom replacement went from the steering column to the front head lights. It took a while before I noticed it but I am having trouble with the turn signals and hazard flashers. The trouble is that the turn signals do work, but they work whether the iginition key is turned ON or OFF. And the only way I can get the Hazards to flash is if I turn the haszard switch to ON and activate the turn signal switch to either the left or right and then all four hazard lights flash. Things were working properly before replacing the harness (loom). Could the problem be as simple as maybe I did not hook the correct wires to the turn and hazard flasher units under the dash? Would having them wrong way round cause this phenomenen?

Jon,I had the same problem when I rewired my mg midget. Make sure that the hazard switch is connected. And the wires are pushed in all the way. It might be hard for you b/c of the hazard switch being in the dash (need small hands). I would frist check the turn signal relay under the dash and see if there is any power going to it. This wire should be green and run to the fuse box. Power should only be to the signal switch when the key is on I think you might have hook something up wrong check the fuse box and your hanes manual.

Had the same problem with mine, turned out to be a problem with the hazard sw. joggle it a few times and see if it fixes..

Thanks for the comments. I do know that my hazard switch is a little ratty. I may just replace it. I am still curious though about what happens if the wires at the flasher units are in the wrong positions. I remember reading a post once where Paul Hunt, stated that it was "dangerous" if these wires were attached wrong. I hope he can expound on that statement. And can anyone answer the question as to just what would be the results if those wires were attached wrong at the flashers.
