MG MGB Technical - Head lights - switch, join or ground?
I've reviewed the archive and found a very relevant thread titled "HEAD LIGHT PROBLEM". My case is exactly the same, lights worked and stopped after arriving home. I'm starting to troubleshoot the problem and have a quest about diagnosing things... If the trouble were "downstream" of the fuse block, ie - ground side of the head lights, wouldn't I expect to measure 12 VDC on either/both of the top two fuse circuits when the switch is "on"? I do not find 12 volts here and am thinking that directs my efforts to looking at things between the switch (or itself) and the fuse block. I am able to light high beams off the colum lever, all other gauges work, signals work. The only other item I've found that doesn't work is the blower/booster fan - I think that's on the same circuit, yes? Any thoughts? Thanks, Ted |

The headlamps are powered by a brown wire, unfused, that comes from the starter solenoid. Is there 12v at the switch? Check the brown wire there. If you have 12v then check the other two wires for 12v as you engage first the park lights then the headlamps. |

William - thanks for the suggested approach. I ended up pulling out the switch to test it and found the lights position wasn't making. Took the switch apart, used some contact cleaner and retested - OK. So put it all back and now have lights. I appreciate your suggestion - I learned something from that! Ted |
