MG MGB Technical - Headlights
Yesterday I tried to remove the headlight glass from the reflector unit but they seemed to be glued together. My plan is to polish the reflector on some spots were it have rusted. Can I seperate the glass from the reflector or do I have to live with it and change my headlights when the swedish MoT says so? |

Jesper, If you have sealed beam units, then you will not be able to remove the front glass lens. Sam |

Ok, guess I have sealed-beam units then. Thanks for your response. |

Even if you don't have sealed beam units i.e. the bulb can removed from the reflector/glass assembly, you still can't split the reflector and glass (I have never tried, but they haven't fallen apart either). If you could dampness could get in much easier than it already does. And in any case the silvering is extremely thin, and even wiping it with a duster will scratch it and reduce efficiency. If the silvering is discoloured or rusted such that it fails the test (as mine did) then you will need new units. |
