MG MGB Technical - Heater cable won't fit
I just got a new heater cable (the one that goes to the water valve) from LBCarco. My car did not have the cable when I got it. I think I have it routed correctly, but It is about three to four inches short of reaching the heater knob to the left of my steering wheel. Any ideas? |

Greg, Being in the midst of a complete rebuild and having handled those cables myself it could just be they sold you the wrong one: meant for the air inlet control shutter behind and at the base of the heater unit , just inside the bulkhead; that one is considerably shorter than the one you mention. On the other hand: you might just try a bycicle brake inner and outer cable and make it fit lengthwise since there is nothing special about them. Good luck! Henk van der Ben, The Netherlands |

Happened to me about six months ago, I returned it to Moss and called Gordon at the B Hive and he remenbered having a problem with them, Gordon suggested getting a lawn mower cable and cutting to size. His suggestion worked great. FWIW, Clifton |

Thanks, I'll try the lawn mower cable. The bicyle cables I've used in the past are stranded in the middle,so I don't think they would be strong enough to push the valve. However, it would probably work for the flap in the heater box. BTW, Clifton, I'm near the base of the mountains about 15 miles from the NC state line, are you in the area? |

Greg, I live in central NC just below Greensboro, wish I was closer to you as some of the best sports car roads in the country are near you. Regards, Clifton |

I, too, just got one from LBCarco and it was too short. Checked the part number on the package with the one in the catalog and they matched. I happened to have a generic cable which I cut to length and it worked fine. |

Used a lawn mower throttle cable last night. It was only about an inch too long. Seems to work well. |
